Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a t-shirt indie vs. mass-market?
Indie means the design came from an individual artist, not a corporate trend team or a licensed graphic library. On Threadless, every shirt meets that bar — and you can see exactly who made yours.
Do indie artists actually earn money from my purchase?
Yes — every sale sends earnings directly to the artist who designed the shirt. No middlemen, no licensing fees.
What styles of indie tees are popular?
Everything: cottagecore, dark academia, nerdy, surreal, minimalist, maximalist, political, absurdist humor, fandom deep cuts. The humor collection is a great entry point if you want something with personality.
Can I open my own indie t-shirt shop on Threadless?
Yes — it's free. Upload your art, set your own prices, and Threadless handles printing, shipping, and customer service. Learn how to get started on the artist selling page.
How often do new indie designs drop?
Every day. There are thousands of active artists uploading original work, so the collection genuinely changes overnight. Sort by newest arrivals on any t-shirt category page to see what just came in.
