About this Design

The design features a black and white illustration of a fish viewed from above. The fish has intricate shading and detailing on its scales, fins, and gills, creating a realistic representation. The style uses a stippling technique that emphasizes texture and depth, giving the fish a lifelike appearance.

Ink drawing of a Kohaku (紅白) koi. This variety of nishikigoi have white bodies with a red markings which should be evenly spread across the body but not the tail or fins, and a large red spot on the top of the head. This illustration is hand-drawn using fine ink pens and was made using thousands of tiny dots in a stippling technique. This is piece is part of a small collection of different koi, I researched some of the most popular varieties and worked from a variety of reference photos to create drawings to match these breeds. Koi carp are ornamental fish which are popularly kept for decorative purposes in ponds and traditional Japanese gardens. Through selective breeding many different breeds and varieties of koi have been achieved in a variety of colours and patterns.
